RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are high rates registered globally of breast cancer, cervical and prostate. People going through have needs that cause an impact in their life's quality, especially in the final stages of the illness. GOAL: To characterise the most evaluated and afflicted physical, emotional, roll, cognitive, social and spiritual needs of patients in the final stages of breast, cervical and prostate cancer. INTERVENTIONS/METHODS: A thorough systematic search of databases such as Medline (Ovid) and Embase, from databases' creation throughout 31 December 2021. Quantitative studies were included to evaluate, from the adoption of tools, the dimensions or needs of people going under three types of cancer on final stages. RESULTS: Twelve studies were included. More common symptoms such as nausea/vomiting and pain were the most evaluated with 83%. Fifty-eight per cent of papers studied the emotional function of people with breast and prostate cancer. Other 42% included roll, cognitive and social appreciations. Sexual, cognitive and physical, in that line, were the most affected. The most common questionnaires used to measure oncological patients on final stages were those from European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer on its C-30, BR-23, C-15 PAL and CR-25 versions. CONCLUSIONS: On breast and prostate cancer, the most affected aspect was the sexual dysfunction, while for cervical cancer, the physical function was the most altered one.

Abstract Objective: To determine content validity of a protocol with the recommendations for the application of the WHOQOL-BREF instrument to assess the quality of life of women with breast cancer. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive, observational, and type validation of instruments study. The process was developed in 3 phases, including content validation with the participation of experts in the oncology, psychology, social work, and nursing fields that assessed the clarity, coherence, relevance, and sufficiency of the protocol. The degree of agreement between the evaluators was determined using the rWG index. Results: The protocol obtained mean scores higher than 9.0 in all items, the majority with rWG indices greater than 0.5. The evaluators added key recommendations such as permanent accompany during the application of the survey and active pauses inclusion due to the instrument extension. Conclusions: A protocol is presented to improve the application of the WHOQOL-BREF instrument in populations that suffer from breast cancer.

Abstract Introduction: Low Birth Weight (LBW) has multiple causes and continues to be a problem that affects different regions of Colombia. Objective: To determine factors associated with LBW in the Departmental University Hospital of Nariño (Colombia). Materials and methods: A case-control study that included newborns and mothers whose delivery took place between November 2014 and June 2015. Results: Risk of LBW was higher in: women aged between 10-19 years (OR=7.79, 95%CI=2.61-23.23); with history of vaginal infection during pregnancy (OR=4, 95%CI=1.26-12.66); and those affiliated with the subsidized health regimen (OR=4.96, 95%CI=1.71-14.41). The risk of having a newborn with LBW was reduced by 10% (OR=0.90, 95%CI=0.84-0.96) for each one unit increase in Body Mass index, and by 76% (OR=0.23, 95%CI=0.16-0.34) for each increase in one week of gestation. Conclusions: Most of the identified risk factors can be prevented or intervened with through an early public health approach.
